额叶皮质最前端的圆形末端称为额极。

额极区域是前额叶皮质的一部分，对应Brodmann第10区。就其功能而言，可分为两个区域：外侧额极区（Fp1）和内侧额极区（Fp2）。Fp1与认知、工作记忆和感知觉相关，而Fp2则参与涉及情感加工和社会认知的脑网络。
