The medial occipitotemporal gyrus runs along the medial aspect of the temporal lobe and occipital lobe. It is formed by two gyri usually referred to separately:

  • The temporal part also refered as the parahippocampal gyrus
  • The occipital part also refered as the lingual gyrus

The medial occipitotemporal gyrus should not be confused with the lateral temporo-occipital gyrus (also known as the fusiform gyrus), which runs parallel and just lateral to the medial occipitotemporal gyrus, separated from it by the collateral sulcus.
