Slice planes in cardiac MRI

Due to the anatomy and spatial disposition of the heart, cardiac exploration calls for specific slice planes, like those of cardiac ultrasonography.
MRI exam of the heart is based on the following planes:

  • 4 chambers
  • Left ventricle long-axis
  • Left ventricle short-axis.

Depending on the indication for the examination, complementary slices may be performed on the right ventricle or the cardiac valves.
