Parallel RF transmission (transmit SENSE)

RF pulse transmission from a set of coils exploiting parallel techniques is in the process of development. Each coil element is used to transmit an independent radiofrequency pulse. When combined, the pulses from the different elements give a result equivalent to a longer and far more complex RF pulse.

This technology offers multiple potential improvements in radiofrequency transmission:

  • shorter pulse duration
  • better multidimensional spatial discrimination of selective pulses
  • reduced transmission power and dose absorbed by the patient (SAR)
  • corrected patient-related inhomogeneities, namely in ultra high field MRI.
