Basis cranii

  • Synonym: Basicranium

Definition

The cranial base refers to the inferior aspect of the skull. When viewed from above, it shows the cranial cavity, i.e. the internal surface of cranial base. When viewed from below, the cranial base represents the external surface of the skull’s lower part, also known as the norma basalis.
