Nasal part of frontal bone

Pars nasalis ossis frontalis

  • Related terms: Nasal part; Nasal part (Frontal bone)

Definition

The nasal part of frontal bone is a small section of the frontal bone which projects inferiorly between the right and left supraorbital margins.

The lower edge of this nasal part of frontal bone features two curved margins known as the nasal notches of frontal bone. These include a right and a left nasal notch, each starting from the middle and extending laterally and backward. Towards the front, the nasal notch connects underneath with the nasal bone, while towards the side and back , it links with the maxillary bones' frontal process and the lacrimal bone. The joint where the nasal part of frontal bone meets the nasal bones is termed the frontonasal suture. The nasion is the central point of this suture, where it crosses the internasal suture.

At the front, the two nasal notches converge in the center, and here, the lower edge of the nasal part of frontal bone extends downward and forward, forming a bony prominence known as the nasal spine. This structure positions itself behind the nasal bones and supports the bridge of the nose.
