Trochlea of talus
Trochlea ossis tali
- Latin synonym: Trochlea tali
Definition
Trochlea of talus pertains to the smooth upper joint surface of talus body. It links with tibia’s lower joint part to construct the ankle joint. The trochlea is wider at the front than at the back, ensuring greater stability of the ankle joint during dorsiflexion as opposed to plantar flexion. Trochlea is convex in the antero-posterior direction and slightly concave from side to side. Towards the front, the trochlea seamlessly transitions into the neck of the talus bone.
