Origin: Dorsal fascia of tongue;

Artery: Sides and base of tongue;

Nerve: Hypoglossal nerve

Action: changes shape of tongue in mastication and deglutition.

The Vertical muscle (Verticalis linguae) (Vertical lingualis) is found only at the borders of the forepart of the tongue. Its fibers extend from the upper to the under surface of the organ.
