Anatomy is a complex discipline, especially in veterinary medicine where the variations between species makes its learning even more complicated. This teaching is in constant evolution, in particular due to changing pedagogical preferences or regulatory constraints and criteria (in particular in Europe).
Anatomical knowledge is the basis for reasoning and developing surgical techniques as well as for the analysis of medical imaging (radiography, CT, MRI, etc.). It is essential for veterinarians to be able to rely on normal examinations in order to build their clinical thought process.
In these two fields (Anatomy and Clinical), scientific discoveries or technological advances make it necessary to adapt tools while remaining in tune with the difficulties of the learners. This is the objective that IMAIOS has set itself by developing vet-Anatomy, which focuses on the design of evolving tools and effective interfaces that allow users to reinforce their learning, especially in anatomy and radiology.
Commitment to education
In the educational field, we are in close contact with the professors of the Laboratoire d'Anatomie Comparée de l'Ecole Vétérinaire Nantes (ONIRIS): in collaboration with them, we are building modules which are similar to an integrative learning style in line with the recent evolution of anatomy teaching. The different modules of vet-Anatomy and the numerous functionalities already allow students to visualize anatomical parts in detail and to place them in imaging, endoscopy, and soon macroscopic anatomy and operative views. Thanks to the use of high quality images, the possibility to select, highlight and search for specific anatomical parts, the software helps users understand the layout of the different anatomical elements and allows students to appropriate complex concepts and to integrate them into their training cycle.
Commitment to the clinical field
In the clinical field, we have established collaborations with clinical structures, teachers and veterinary clinicians specializing in medical imaging: Imaging and Medical Services of the Veterinary School of Nantes - ONIRIS, CHVE de Livet (St-Michel-de-Livet), Azurvet (St-Laurent-du-Var), AniCura TRIOVet (Rennes). These partners provide us with normal medical imaging examinations (endoscopy, CT scan, MRI, conventional radiography) which will serve as raw material for the realization of the modules. Being aware of the various diseases encountered in their daily practice, these clinicians can direct us towards the most common ones that require imaging examinations or towards specific needs for understanding certain images. On our side, we provide annotated modules that will serve as a working basis for the interpretation of abnormal examinations, especially for veterinarians who are less qualified for analyzing these complex images.
With the increasing demand for veterinarians specializing in medical imaging, veterinary imaging is becoming an increasingly important part of the veterinary curriculum. It is essential to have educational tools that facilitate teaching and meet these expectations.
Furthermore, IMAIOS is aware that veterinary students in training today are born in the digital age and tend to turn more often towards technology to find an answer quickly. Today's students tend to be visual learners, so limiting text and favoring images and videos can stimulate assimilation and memorization.
