Cervical vertebrae - Vertebrae cervicales


In vertebrates, cervical vertebrae are the vertebrae of the neck, immediately below the skull. All mammals have 7 cervical vertebrae (C1 to C7).

The first (atlas) and second (axis) cervical vertebrae differ considerably from others to allow free movement of the head.
