Origin: On the convex ventral surfaces of the first six thoracic vertebrae.

Insertion: Ventral border on the wing of the sixth cervical vertebra, as well as on the transverse process of the seventh cervical vertebra.

Action: Draws the neck downward.

Nerve: Rami ventrales of the cervicales nerve.
