It supplies the inferior parts of the head of the caudate and the anterior limb of the internal capsule with the medial lenticulostriate arteries (Heubner's artery is the largest of the medial lenticulostriate arteries and supplies the anteromedial part of the head of the caudate and anterior inferior internal capsule).
