Descripción

The parahippocampal gyrus is a grey matter cortical region of the brain that surrounds the hippocampus and is part of the limbic system.

It is considered as the temporal part of the medial occipitotemporal gyrus.

It covers the hippocampus and uncus medially, and amygdala anteromedially. It is bounded by the collateral sulcus inferolaterally.

The parahippocampal gyrus plays an important role in memory encoding and retrieval.
