Definición
El sistema nervioso central incluye el cerebro y la médula espinal. Se encargan de coordinar e integrar la información nerviosa. Tanto el cerebro como la médula espinal están protegidos por membranas de tejido conectivo, llamadas meninges, y están suspendidos en el líquido cerebroespinal.
El cerebro y la médula espinal están completamente protegidos por el cráneo y la columna vertebral.
