Tercer trocánter - Trochanter tertius

Descripción

In horse, the third trochanter is an additional process on the lateral surface of the proximal third of the body of femur, for insertion of superficial gluteal muscle.

In dogs, the third trochanter is less visible, only seen as a small lateral eminence of the proximal body of femur, 2 cm distal from the apex of the greater trochanter, and at the same level for the great trochanter. This is also for insertion of superficial gluteal muscle.
