Insertion: Sides of the tongue
Nerve: Hypoglossal nerve
Action: Changes shape of tongue in mastication and deglutition.
The Transverse muscle (Transversus linguae) (Transverse lingualis) consists of fibers which arise from the median fibrous septum and pass lateralward to be inserted into the submucous fibrous tissue at the sides of the tongue.
