定義
胸郭上口（胸郭入口、胸郭上開口部）は腎形を呈し、前後径よりも左右の横径が広い。後方は第一胸椎、前方は胸骨の上縁、両側は第一肋骨によって形成される。開口部は下前方に傾斜しており、前部は後部よりも低い位置にある。前後径は約5 cm、横径は約10 cmである。
