"대뇌"라는 용어는 종뇌에서 발달하는 앞뇌(전뇌)의 일부를 가리킵니다.
대뇌 또는 종뇌는 사이뇌를 덮는 두 개의 대뇌반구로 구성됩니다. 각 대뇌반구는 대뇌겉질이라고 불리는 회색질의 덮개층으로 이루어지며, 이 겉질은 그 아래의 백색질과 바닥핵을 포함한 겉질아래 회색질핵을 둘러쌉니다.
