Articular cavity

Cavitas articularis

Definition

The joints belonging to the group of the diarthroses are characterised by the discontinuity of their articular surfaces, that are enclosed within an articular capsule.

The articular cavity (Cavum articulare) is the inner volume of this capsule; it contains synovia, a very particular lubricant liquid that reduces the friction.
