Calcaneal tuberosity

Tuber calcanei

Definition

Calcaneal tuberosity is a bony prominence found on the underside of the heel bone. It forms when the back surface of the calcaneus bends forward onto the sole of the foot. This calcaneal tuberosity has protrusions on both sides, known as the medial and lateral processes, which are separated by a V-shaped notch.
