Medial border of tibia

Margo medialis tibiae

  • Synonym: Medial margin of tibia
  • Related terms: Medial border

Definition

The upper and lower portions of the medial border of tibia display a rounded and smooth contour, while its central part appears more pronounced. Starting from the posterior aspect of the medial condyle, it extends to the posterior edge of the medial malleolus. The upper section of the border provides attachment for the tibial collateral ligament of the knee joint, and allows for the insertion of certain fibers of the Popliteus muscle. The middle third of the border serves as the point of origin for specific fibers of the Soleus and Flexor digitorum longus muscles.
