Occiput

Definition

The occiput is the anatomical term for the posterior (back) portion of the head or skull.

It comprises of various tissue layers from superficial to deep, including the skin and superficial fascia. The latter contains the occipital belly of occipitofrontalis muscle. The bony framework comprises of an unpaired bone, called the occipital bone.
