Paraterminal gyrus

Gyrus paraterminalis

Definition

The paraterminal gyrus is a thin gyrus that runs vertically. It is located just in front of the lamina terminalis, which is the frontal wall of the brain's third ventricle. This gyrus is situated below the rostrum of the corpus callosum and behind the paraolfactory gyri. The separation between them is marked by a posterior paraolfactory sulcus. Superiorly, the paraterminal gyrus connects with the indusium griseum, which extends along the outer surface of the corpus callosum within the callosal sulcus. Inferiorly, the paraterminal gyrus extends to the lower surface of the brain, where it joins with the diagonal band of Broca. This band forms the oblique posterior-medial border of the anterior perforated substance.
