Talar sulcus

Sulcus ossis tali

  • Latin synonym: Sulcus tali
  • Related terms: Sulcus tali

Definition

Tarsal sulcus, or sulcus tali, is a deep bony groove beneath the talus' neck. It runs obliquely sideways and widens anteriorly. Likewise, the calcaneum has a corresponding groove, called sulcus calcanei, situated beneath the sulcus tali. These two grooves together create the sinus tarsi or tarsal canal. Within the canal, the interosseus talocalcaneal ligament attaches to the inferior surface of the talus.
