Tuberculum sellae

Tuberculum sellae

Definition

Tuberculum sellae is the front raised edge of the sella turcica. It separates the chiasmatic sulcus at the front from the hypophyseal fossa at the back. The sides of the tuberculum sellae extend into bony projections known as the middle clinoid processes. Both the tuberculum sellae and these processes provide an attachment point for the front edge of the diaphragma sellae.
