시상밑부는 사이뇌의 일부입니다. 가장 두드러진 구조물은 시상밑핵입니다. 시상밑부는 종뇌의 바닥핵인 창백핵과 연결됩니다.
시상밑부는 시상의 배쪽, 속섬유막의 안쪽, 시상하부의 가쪽에 위치합니다. 이 영역은 여러 회색질핵과 이에 관련된 백색질 구조물로 이루어져 있습니다.
