A higher performing version of e-Anatomy now available

IMAIOS has released a new version of the anatomy atlases e-Anatomy and vet-Anatomy to make them more user-friendly and faster to display. The modules contain a large number of images, requiring a lot of resources. This is a major improvement when it comes to ease of use.

We know how crucial the display speed of medical images is for your daily use. The experience of our users is at the heart of our work and our top priority.

The development of the new viewer for our anatomy atlases, stems from a genuine desire to provide even better performing and user friendly tools for our clients. It has taken us over a year, but today the result of our work is here: the new version of the viewer is now online!

Faster display

The first image of the series is displayed immediately, allowing you to find information quickly even in an area with poor internet connection.

To improve web performance, there are two main options:

  • Either we reduce the quantity or the weight of the components on the page;
  • or we change the order in which we load these components to prioritize the most important ones.

In the case of e-Anatomy and vet-Anatomy, reducing the weight of the components would have resulted in poorer quality images, which was not an option. Therefore, we chose the second option, which consists in displaying the first image of the series first and then gradually displaying the rest of the series. As a result, the user experience is more fluid, even when loading the images via a mobile network.

In addition, since Internet and mobile connections differ from one region to another, we have deployed the HTTP/3 protocol on our delivery network (CDN), which should also promote a better user experience with higher transmission speed, shorter loading times and a stable connection.

The user at the heart of the web experience (Core web vitals)

These improvements are also promoted and taken into account by search engines. Google's Core Web Vitals are performance indicators that seek to establish criteria for what constitutes a good web experience. This Google initiative aims to improve the loading speed and user experience for all websites

3 criteria measured:

  • The LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) metric measures the speed at which the main content is loaded in the visible part of the browser. The main content corresponds to the largest block of image or text.
  • The FID (Fréchet inception distance) metric measures the speed at which users can interact with a page after landing on it. An interaction can correspond to a click on a link or a button, the pressing of a key on the keyboard or the filling in of a form field (checkbox, bullet, drop-down list, etc.).
  • Finally, the last indicator (CLS) concerns visual stability and measures the frequency with which users experience unexpected layout changes. 

A new, more user friendly interface

The new version also includes new features (dark mode, new filtering, side menu...). This more modern aspect reflects the technological progress of web browsers, whose performance allows us to offer you a real webapp at the level of the mobile versions of e-Anatomy and vet-Anatomy.

New modules to enhance our anatomy atlases

IMAIOS aims to offer content that covers a maximum of anatomical areas and species. We have just released three new modules: an illustration module of the ear, a dental CBCT for e-Anatomy and a dog module with a gastrointestinal endoscopy for vet-Anatomy.
