L'aire spinale X (lame X de Rexed) désigne la substance grise entourant le canal central de la moelle spinale, également connue sous le nom de substance intermédiaire centrale de la moelle spinale. Elle comprend les commissures grises postérieure (dorsale) et antérieure (ventrale), situées respectivement en arrière et en avant du canal central. La commissure grise antérieure relie les cornes ventrales de la substance grise des côtés droit et gauche de la moelle spinale, tandis que la commisure grise postérieure connecte les cornes dorsales de la substance grise entre les deux moitiés spinales.
