定義
軸（横断面とも呼ばれる）平面とは、水平方向に向いた平面であり、解剖学的正位にある身体を通過する際に、上部と下部に分割するものである。
軸平面は、垂直方向に向いた冠状（左右方向）平面および矢状（前後方向）平面と直角に交差する。
