Définition
Le sillon central de l'insula s'étend de l'apex à la base. La base, dans ce cas, désigne la partie du sillon circulaire péri-insulaire qui s'étend du point insulaire antérieur au point insulaire postérieur. Sur le côté externe du cortex de l'insula, le sillon central se prolonge en tant que sillon central sur la face latérale du cerveau, positionné entre les gyri pré- et post-central.
À l'intérieur de l'insula, le sillon central la divise en trois gyri courts (antérieur, moyen et postérieur) situés en avant du sillon central. En arrière du sillon central de l'insula, on trouve deux gyri longs (antérieur et postérieur).
